Prix pour l’ensemble d’une carrière

PIERRE BRUNEAU

Pierre Bruneau débute sa carrière en 1972 à la radio CFDA de Victoriaville, suivi de la radio CJTR Trois-Rivières, pour faire le saut à CKAC Montréal de 1973 à 1980.  C’est en 1976 qu’il fait son entrée à TVA comme chef d’antenne du bulletin de nouvelles. Il est à la barre du TVA midi ainsi que des bulletins de 16 h 30, 17 h et 18 h de LCN et TVA.
Au cours de sa carrière, Pierre Bruneau a couvert près d’une quarantaine de soirées électorales municipales, provinciales et nationales comme chef d’antenne à TVA, en plus d’animer plus d’une dizaine de débats électoraux. 

Coup de cœur du public à plusieurs reprises, il détient 23 trophées Artis à titre de meilleur animateur de bulletin de nouvelles. Il a reçu plusieurs honneurs qui saluent sa contribution exceptionnelle à la communauté, dont la médaille du Jubilé de la Reine, obtenue en 2002. En 2003, il a été décoré par l’Ordre du mérite de l’Association canadienne des radiodiffuseurs en reconnaissance à sa longue carrière au sein de l’industrie de la radiotélévision. Nommé Chevalier de l’Ordre de la Pléiade, en 2004, il a également reçu l’insigne de l’Ordre national du Québec, en 2008, et de l’Ordre du Canada, en 2012, soit la plus haute distinction civile remise au pays. En 2014, il se retrouve à la première position d’un sondage, réalisé par Ipsos Reid pour le compte de Sélection du Reader’s Digest, et devient la personnalité en laquelle les Québécois ont le plus confiance. L’année suivante, il reçoit également les prix de la confiance IPSOS/ICO dans les catégories secteur caritatif et secteur information et journalisme, prix qu’il a obtenus à plusieurs reprises. Après avoir reçu l’Ordre de Montréal en 2021, il s’est également vu attribuer le prix Raymond-Charette pour avoir su se démarquer par la précision de sa langue, par la richesse de son vocabulaire ainsi que par la clarté de son expression.

Pierre Bruneau est aussi reconnu pour son apport philanthropique. En hommage à son jeune fils, décédé d’une leucémie en 1988, Pierre Bruneau a mis sur pied la Fondation Charles-Bruneau pour assurer que tous les enfants atteints de cancer aient de meilleures chances de guérison.

 

Prix Icône de l’Académie

CATHERINE O'HARA

Le prix Icône de l’Académie, remis à une personne ou à une institution canadienne pour sa contribution exceptionnelle et continue à l’industrie audiovisuelle nationale ou étrangère, est décerné à Catherine O’Hara, actrice, scénariste et comédienne prolifique qui a reçu de nombreux prix et qui a notamment tenu des rôles principaux et de soutien dans Schitt’s Creek, Beetlejuice, Maman j’ai raté l’avion! (Home Alone), Maman j’ai encore raté l’avion! (Home Alone 2), After Hours, La brûlure (Heartburn), The Life Before This, Penelope, Away We Go, Max et les Maximonstres (Where the Wild Things Are), A.C.O.D., The Right Kind of Wrong, L’étrange Noël de monsieur Jack (The Nightmare Before Christmas), et bien d’autres films et séries télévisées.

Catherine O’Hara is a prolific, multi-award-winning actress, writer, and comedian whose film credits include lead and supporting roles in Beetlejuice, Home Alone, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, After Hours, Heartburn, The Life Before This, Penelope, Away We Go, Where the Wild Things Are, A.C.O.D., The Right Kind of Wrong, Nightmare Before Christmas and many more.
O’Hara has collaborated with Christopher Guest and co-writer Eugene Levy four times on the critically acclaimed mockumentary films Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, and For Your Consideration. Her performance in the latter won her the 2007 National Board of Review Award for Supporting Actress.

 

O'Hara has made many guest appearances on top-rated television series including Six Feet Under and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Her role in the HBO’s Temple Grandin earned her Primetime Emmy, Satellite, and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. O’Hara first performed with Toronto’s Second City Theatre and later, with fellow alumni including Eugene Levy, created the iconic sketch comedy show SCTV. O’Hara won an Emmy Award® and earned four Emmy® nominations for her writing on the show.

In the final two seasons of the hit CBC series, Schitt’s Creek, Catherine received an Emmy Award® for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, a Golden Globe Award® for Best Performance by an Actress in a Comedy Television Series, a SAG Award® for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series, a Critics’ Choice Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series, a TCA Award for Individual Achievement in Comedy, and multiple Canadian Screen Awards for Best Performance by an Actress in a Continuing Leading Comedic Role amongst others. O’Hara also garnered Emmy®, Golden Globe® and SAG® awards in the Best Ensemble categories alongside her cast mates Eugene Levy, Dan Levy, and Annie Murphy.

 

Prix humanitaire

RYAN REYNOLDS

Le Prix humanitaire, qui récompense une contribution humanitaire extraordinaire ou un acte de compassion réalisé au cours de l’année précédente par un.e membre de l’industrie audiovisuelle canadienne, est attribué à Ryan Reynolds, acteur, producteur, scénariste et entrepreneur. En plus de son indéniable capacité à divertir et à captiver le public, Ryan Reynolds a fait preuve tout au long de sa carrière d’un esprit philanthropique. Il a effectué des dons généreux auprès de diverses organisations caritatives telles que Water First Education and Training Inc. et le Haut Commissariat des Nations unies pour les réfugiés (afin de soutenir les familles ukrainiennes
déplacées), et a lancé une campagne annuelle de chandails de Noël « à l’esthétique discutable », qui permet de récolter des fonds pour l’Hôpital pour enfants malades (The Hospital for Sick Children, ou SickKids). Ryan a également largement contribué à l’industrie en dehors de son rôle d’acteur, notamment en cofondant deux organismes visant à offrir aux communautés sous-représentées un meilleur accès au secteur créatif : Group Effort Initiative (GEI) et Creative Ladder.

Ryan Reynolds is a Canadian actor, producer, screenwriter and entrepreneur. He has been nominated for Golden Globe and Grammy awards for his work on the billion-dollar franchise Deadpool. He recently starred in the musical comedy SPIRITED opposite Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer available on AppleTV+. His film The Adam Project which he also produced is currently Netflix's fourth most-viewed English-language movie of all time. Reynolds is the only actor with 3 films on Netflix’s all-time top 10 list (Red Notice, The Adam Project, Six Underground).  After beginning his acting career in 1991, Ryan rose to prominence in comedy series Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place and dozens of films including The Proposal, Definitely, Maybe, Mississippi Grind and Free Guy. Reynolds is also an award-winning marketer, creating breakthrough campaigns for Deadpool as well Aviation Gin, Mint Mobile and the Match Group. He is an owner of Aviation Gin, Mint Mobile, Wrexham Football Club, Chief Creative Officer of MNTN and a co-founder of Maximum Effort Productions. He has been recognized as one of the most creative people in business by Fast Company, Wall Street Journal and AdWeek.

 

Prix Radius

SIMU LIU

Le prix Radius, présenté par MADE | NOUS et remis à un.e Canadien.ne dont le travail rayonne à l’international, est décerné à Simu Liu, qui est entré dans l’histoire en tant que star du premier film Marvel mettant en vedette des interprètes asiatiques, Shang-Chi et la légende des dix
anneaux de Destin Daniel Cretton. Simu Liu a également joué dans la série humoristique de CBC, Kim’ Convenience, qui a obtenu le Prix de la meilleure série humoristique aux prix Écrans canadiens 2018.

Simu Liu made history as the star of the first Asian-fronted movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Destin Daniel Cretton’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which garnered him The People’s Choice Award for Favorite Action Movie Star.

For five seasons, Liu starred in the CBC/Netflix comedy series Kim’s Convenience, which won the ACTRA Awards for Outstanding Ensemble in 2017 and was also nominated for the same award in 2018. Kim's Convenience also went on to win the award for Best Comedy Series at the 2018 Canadian Screen Awards. Liu’s first major role was on the critically acclaimed OMNI crime drama Blood and Water, the first trilingual series (English, Mandarin, and Cantonese) produced by Canadian television, for which he received nominations at the ACTRA Awards and Canadian Screen Awards. His memoir, We Are Dreamers: An Immigrant Superhero Origin Story, will be released by HarperCollins in May 2022.

 

Prix Hommage du conseil d’administration de l’Académie

JENNIFER PODEMSKI

Le prix Hommage du conseil d’administration de l’Académie, remis à une personne canadienne pour son apport extraordinaire à la croissance de l’industrie audiovisuelle nationale, est décerné à Jennifer Podemski, actrice, scénariste, réalisatrice et productrice Anishinaabe et ashkénaze dont l’impressionnante carrière à la télévision s’étend sur plus de 30 ans. On l’a notamment vue dans Reservation Dogs, Dance Me Outside, The Rez, Degrassi TNG, Blackstone, Empire of Dirt et Departure.

Jennifer Podemski is an Anishinaabe/Ashkenazi actor, writer, director and producer with a 30+ year career. Her on screen credits include Reservation Dogs, Dance Me Outside, The Rez, Degrassi TNG, Blackstone, Empire of Dirt, and Departure. Her production company Redcloud Studios Inc., has been at helm of many television series including: The Seventh Generation, Rabbit Fall, The Other Side, Moccasin Flats, and Future History (Canadian Screen Award 2020 for best director) and the acclaimed feature film Empire of Dirt which was nominated for Best Picture at the Canadian Screen Awards

More recently, Jennifer co-created, co-wrote and showran the mini series LITTLE BIRD for Crave/APTN.  She also wrote, directed and produced Unsettled a dramatic series for TVO/APTN

In 2020, Jennifer launched The Shine Network Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to celebrating Indigenous women in film and television.

 

PAUL POPE

Le prix Hommage du conseil d’administration de l’Académie est également remis à titre posthume à Paul Pope, figure majeure de la communauté médiatique canadienne et grand défenseur de l’industrie audiovisuelle à Terre-Neuve. Grâce à ses efforts inlassables de
promotion de sa province et au travail de sa compagnie, Pope Productions, Paul Pope a largement contribué à faire venir des centaines de projets cinématographiques et télévisuels à Terre-Neuve, notamment Hudson & Rex, Rare Birds et Extraordinary Visitor.

Paul Leslie Pope (1958-2022)

Paul Pope was a giant in the Canadian media production community and a huge advocate for the industry in Newfoundland. Through his tireless promotion of the province, and the work of his company, Pope Productions, Paul was instrumental in bringing hundreds of film and TV projects to Newfoundland. His credits include the TV series Hudson & Rex, Life With Derek and Above & Beyond and movies Grown Up Movie Star, Rare Birds and Extraordinary Visitor.  He was a force of nature, whose generosity helped launch countless careers. His enthusiasm, brilliant intellect and patience, along with his legendary sense of humour are deeply missed.

 

Prix de l’agent.e de changement

TRACY MOORE

Le Prix de l’agent.e de changement, qui reconnaît et honore les personnes travaillant dans l’industrie canadienne des médias de l’écran qui utilisent leur voix et leur plateforme pour dénoncer le racisme et la discrimination systémiques, qui soutiennent et mettent en valeur la parole des militant.e.s antiracistes, et qui visent des transformations structurelles dans les secteurs canadiens des médias, du cinéma et de la télévision au profit de l’équité et de l’inclusion, est remis à la présentatrice primée de Cityline, Tracy Moore. Celle-ci a fait preuve d’un engagement admirable en faveur de la diversité et de l’inclusion devant et derrière la caméra, notamment dans son rôle d’animatrice de la série YouTube et du balado Cityline Real on Race, ainsi qu’en coproduisant et coanimant l’émission spéciale sur les enjeux raciaux de Citytv, Ending Racism: What Will it Take?, qui a obtenu un prix RTDNA. Tracy Moore s’est également engagée à soutenir les jeunes femmes et les enfants en créant la toute première bourse de Cityline pour les femmes PANDC (personnes autochtones, noires et de couleur). Elle a récemment été nommée ambassadrice de l’organisme caritatif Trust 15.

Tracy Moore is the award-winning host of Cityline. Thanks to her commitment to diversity and inclusion she has also produced and hosted one of Apple podcasts best series of 2020 – Cityline Real on Race.

She is co-producer and co-host of Citytv’s RTNDA award-winning race special: Ending Racism: What Will it Take? and spearheads regular conversations on Cityline to raise awareness and inclusivity of folks who live at the intersectional margins. Moore is most proud of the volunteer work she does with West Toronto charity Trust 15 and the Children’s Aid Foundation Canada.

 

Prix Earle-Grey

PETER MACNEILL

Le Prix Earle-Grey, présenté par eOne et remis à un.e interprète canadien.ne pour souligner son jeu exceptionnel dans les secteurs de la télévision et du cinéma canadiens, est attribué à Peter MacNeill, acteur primé et chevronné de l’industrie audiovisuelle. Fort d’une longue carrière tant au cinéma qu’à la télévision, Peter MacNeill s’est imposé à juste titre comme une légende de l’industrie audiovisuelle canadienne. Il a tenu de nombreux rôles, notamment dans The Hanging Garden de Thom Fitzgerald, qui lui a valu le prix Génie du meilleur rôle de soutien masculin en 1997, la série Call Me Fitz (HBO Canada) aux côtés de Jason Priestley (pour laquelle il a obtenu une nomination aux prix Écrans canadiens dans la catégorie du meilleur rôle de soutien masculin : comédie), et la série Moonshine (eOne/CBC), créée par Sheri Elwood, où il interprète actuellement Ken Finley-Cullen.

Award-winning actor Peter MacNeill has had a successful career in both film and television. Feature film credits include Guillermo Del Toro’s Oscar nominated Nightmare Alley, David Cronenberg’s film A History of Violence opposite Viggo Mortensen, Kevin Costner’s feature Open Range, starring Costner, Robert Duvall and Annette Bening, The Stone Angel with Ellen Burstyn and Cinderella Man with Russell Crowe. 

In 1997 he was presented with a Genie Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Whiskey Mac in Thom Fitzgerald’s The Hanging Garden. Other big screen credits include The Caveman’s Valentine, featuring Samuel L. Jackson, Kit Kitteridge: American Girl with Abigail Breslin, Frequency with Dennis Quaid, Simon Birch, based on the John Irving novel and David Cronenberg’s Crash; First Round Down directed by Brett & Jason Butler; Cardinal opposite Sheila McCarthy, and Regression with Ethan Hawke and Emma Watson. He also recently appeared in The Kid Detective opposite Adam Brody.

In Television, MacNeill has no shortage of credits.  He can currently be seen as a series regular on the CBC hit show Moonshine which will soon air its second season. He has had a series regular roles in This Life for CBC and Good Witch for Hallmark. For four seasons played the patriarch of the Fitz empire in the series for HBO Canada Call Me Fitz alongside Jason Priestley, for which he was nominated for a Canadian Screen award for Best Supporting Actor. Other credits include The Kennedys, a mini-series for The History Channel starring Greg Kinnear and Katie Holmes, The Canada-Germany mini-series Sea Wolf as Fat Louis alongside Neve Campbell and Tim Roth, and is also a recurring character on the Global/ABC series Rookie Blue, co- created by Tassie Cameron and produced by eOne Entertainment. He appeared in and won a Gemini Award for the CBC biopic Victor, based on the life of Olympic gold medalist Victor Davis. Other credits include the biopic Celine, based on the life of Celine Dion, Defiance, Suits and Haven, Queer as Folk, Framed with Rob Lowe and Sam Neill, My Own Country with Marisa Tomei, Storm of the Century based on the novel by Steven King, as well as roles in Being Erica, Traders and PSI Factor among others. Most recently, Peter can be seen in the new Warner Brothers Television series, Titans, and the FX limited series Mrs. America starring Cate Blanchett. In 2003 MacNeill was presented with a Gemini Award for his work on The Eleventh Hour.

Lisa LaFlamme has been at the forefront of journalism for over 30 years tackling some of the biggest issues of our time, traveling the globe, delivering breaking news and bringing it back home to Canadians. The internationally respected journalist has interviewed major newsmakers, Prime Ministers, Presidents and Princes while always keeping the spotlight on the injustices that plague the world’s most oppressed. LaFlamme has traveled to some of the world’s most dangerous places and through her extensive war coverage of Iraq, Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Ukraine has documented the reality of how conflict warps society, punishes the most vulnerable and benefits the most corrupt. 

A native of Kitchener-Waterloo, in 1988, LaFlamme began her career in local radio and TV in her hometown before making the move to CTV National News in 1997.  She moved from Prime Time anchor of CTV Newschannel to an Ottawa correspondent in CTV’s Parliamentary bureau.  In September 2001, LaFlamme became co-host of the number one morning show Canada Am.  Her second day on the job, 9-11, the attacks on the World Trade Centre pulled her out of the studio once again to report from New York City, the United Nations, the Pentagon and ultimately Iraq and Afghanistan. For more than a decade LaFlamme went from conflict zone to disaster zone delivering award winning coverage of  hurricanes, earthquakes and climate crises including Southeast Asia in the wake of the deadly 2005 tsunami and Japan’s devastating nuclear emergency in 2011. That same year she was named Canada’s first female anchor of a national nightly newscast replacing longtime anchor Lloyd Robertson. As Chief Anchor and Senior Editor of CTV National News for almost 12 years, LaFlamme led the country’s number one newscast and cemented her role as the face of news in Canada. During her career, she has received critical acclaim for her live special broadcasts from around the world marking moments in history from Royal weddings to funerals, major political upheaval at home and abroad, the rescue of the Chilean miners, the opioid crisis, the Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing resilience of refugees. LaFlamme has reported extensively on the humanitarian crisis facing the Afghan people and has worked intensively on helping Afghan women and girls under threat by the Taliban. 

The veteran journalist is the recipient of 12 Canadian Screen Awards, consecutive RTDNA awards as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award  for broadcasting and journalism.  Over her career she has received an honorary doctorate from her alma mater University of Ottawa, an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ont. and the University of Windsor and an honorary Doctor of Letters from Trent University. She is the recipient of the Order of Ontario and in  June 2019,  was named Officer of the Order of Canada (O.C.), one of the country’s highest honours. A passionate advocate of democracy in journalism, LaFlamme volunteers for Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) and has traveled with the organization to the Democratic Republic of Congo to mentor young journalists in Goma, in the heart of the conflict zone. She serves as honorary co-chair of the annual JHR Night for Rights.

Lisa is also an ambassador for Plan International and volunteers for Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan.
